Our Fall, Winter, and Spring campouts are among the highlights of the Cub Scout year. And nothing better exemplifies the outdoorsy nature of Scouting than going camping. Our Fall campout this year was at Wanocksett Scout Reservation, in beautiful Dublin, NH. The campground is located right in the shadow of Mount Monadnock, and some of our families took on the challenge to climb the mountain! For those Cub Scouts (and let’s face it … parents) who were not quite ready for that we had a host of other activities. Some scouts learned how to set up their own tents. Others learned how to build a campfire. We learned about campfire cooking and enjoyed some Campfire Coffee Cake. Almost all the scouts went fishing and many caught their first fish! Our super-helpful cooking crew provided a warm and delicious dinner and breakfast and for that we are extremely grateful. The Scouts put on an amazing after-dinner show with skits, jokes, and even a dance performance! Although there were many activities to enjoy the best part was just giving Scouts the opportunity to run around in the woods, play with sticks, discover mushrooms, and enjoy a day of largely unscheduled time outdoors.
