As many of you may know, Cub Scouts (including here in A/B) will be welcoming girls in the fall (well Summer, really, in time for Summer Camp). In doing this, the United States is joining the majority of the world in offering a co-ed scouting experience.
One common question I have heard is ‘Well, what about Girl Scouts?’. And that seems to be asked as if the programs are mutually exclusive. You have Cub Scouts OR Girl Scouts. For some, that may be the case, and they can choose the program that best suites their needs.
But I also want to ask: ‘Why not Cub Scouts AND Girl Scouts?’
I personally think the programs could be quite complimentary. Both are addressing life skills in different and meaningful ways. I hope many young women strive to earn both the Gold Award and rank of Eagle. I hope some pass through our program.
How does it affect our pack?
It doesn't. We will continue to do everything we have always done. Our pack has always been open to all. Siblings have and will continue to be welcome at all meetings and activities regardless of whether they are in the pack or not.
