Some of our intrepid Cub Scouts climbed Mount Wachusett! Undeterred by morning rain several families joined for the ascent to the 2,005’ summit. Well … we started at the Visitor’s Center at about 1,300’, but who’s counting? It was a really fun hike. Just before reaching the top we entered a cloud! That made for an other-worldly experience at the summit with visibility in every direction of about 25 feet. Spoiler alert: make sure you check out the pond near the summit as it’s filled with giant goldfish! We even met some bright orange salamanders on the way back down. Cub Scouting in the summer usually slows down, but not Pack 1! What a great event, getting the scouts outside and enjoying nature on a fun and just-challenging-enough hike.
